Not much…

Friday, April 28th, 2006

There is not much going on nowadays, in school or out…

Other than the Term Assessments coming up, there are no interesting stuffs that I can look forward to, except the Kids Camp, which is really pressing now… Haha…

Anyway, I have voiced my dilemna to NCC, that I want to quit… I was trying to find Mr Chan or Mr Low, but got caught by Mr Heng instead… Haha… So I just told him, and he told me I wasn’t supposed to skip training, but I did anyway, to study at Toa Payoh MacDonalds, but didn’t end up studying cuz I had obstructions to my homework, namely stickers that the PE Dept gave to the class of 331…

And when the PE Dept wanted us to throw it away, (cuz the whole school was littered with it), we immediately snatched our own share (mine being the biggest… haha), and made off with it, I don’t think majority was thrown away though… Three boxes, with half used up… Haha… That was seriously madness… I have five stacks of stickers, about 10cm high… HAHA =P

Can’t wait for Legion chalet, I’m one of those planning it! YAY =P So fun… I’m also planning Kids Camp, but that will be a whole different thing…

*Sigh* I should probably go do my homework now… Stupid Logarithms… They were fun until I got one whole page of wrong answers….

Wish me luck for TA 2, (I need it),

Holiday Mood… For exam week?

Friday, April 21st, 2006

The week was pretty normal, if you can define normal…

Tuesday’s Legion brought a big surprise… I had heard rumours flying around that there would be a Legion chalet this upcoming June holidays, but I couldn’t believe that there actually was going to be one so early in the year until Mr Ang had announced it officially. And he did.

There was a huge uproar (in a good way), and the dates were announced; 13-16 June. Right now, I’m SO looking forward to it, I can’t even concentrate on my TA 2… *Sigh* I’m losing steam this fast? I am so glad for a holiday, Australia will be SO nice!

Camp update (mostly for parents):

19 - 21 May OR 26 - 28 May  RME Retreat, but I will be in Australia for both Camps, so too bad =P… I’ll make sure I’ll help out next year though…

17 - 27 May  Australia Trip
29 - 31 May  Kids Camp (Church)
6 - 10 June  Confirmation Camp (Church)
13 - 16 June Legion Camp
19 - 23 June LLTC (unconfirmed)

I don’t really know yet if I am in LLTC (Lasallian Leadership Training Camp), but I really do hope so =)… Anyway, even if I’m not in, I’ll pull a few strings here and there =P and maybe even if I don’t get in the June one, I’ll be pushed to the December one? *Hopes* *Prays* *Crosses Fingers*

There are so many projects now, but thankfully not as many as last year… Last year was madness, there were projects for EVERY subject! The biggest project we have now is obviously the MILK Run project, in which we will be setting up food or game stalls in the bazaar, and the objective is to raise as much money to give to charity as possible, where proceeds will go to Beyond Social Services.

Anyway, yesterday’s Sport’s Day was quite fun… Even though they blocked off the other half of the field (where the students used to go and play)… I still managed to steal flags from all four houses (except Michael, since I "owned" one in the first place) and had fun cheering for the four different houses… I turned around while cheering for Lawrence (in front of the whole yellow sea) and found someone staring at me. So I told him I wasn’t from Lawrence, and he went "Really?" as if he didn’t believe me… Haha =P, I think he’s TNF C div Captain, or something like that…

After Sport’s Day had ended, Belmond, Lennon, Qing Wei, Julian Lim, Nick Chan and I went out, meeting Joel (ex-209) along the way, and we proceeded to Lido, to watch a movie and eat lunch together. We bought tickets for Ice Age then ate lunch till we were bored. We then split up; Belmond, Lennon, Joel and I going to Borders to read and kill time, where we met Mr Lim Meng Chye, Mr Eric Lam, and the top 2 C div canoeists; Luke Yap and Hin Yang (or something like that)… We also saw Chien Ming, Jun Jie and some others eating at Lido, while we were descending the escalator. Might as well bring the whole of SJI to Orchard Rd…

Ice Age 2 was quite nice, funny, but not very memorable… Typical Disney movie that you see nowadays… They play on some character’s issues, and eventually they have to face it to save the day.

Anyway, this week, I was in quite a holiday mood, especially with all the stress… However, we’re not only approaching the TAs, we’re also running out of time for our projects, since Geog is due next week, Chemistry is long lost…

*Sigh* What would I give for a chalet now?

Easter Celebrations

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

Monday
Monday was phototaking of all the CCAs, and all Uniformed Groups were allowed to wear their uniforms to school, to save time, since the uniformed groups were first to take photos in the morning. That was interesting, especially cuz NCC took so long, that all the other UGs were held up by the combined company (Air and Land)… Anyway, lessons were all disrupted with students and teachers alike walkign in and out of classes at different times, and each class three-quarters full at most… Leigon was last in line, the biggest Catholic society (with QOAS making up more than half of the photo)… Anyway, I played a part in getting the Legionaries organized, together with Mr Ang’s powderful voice, and the helpful portal service of Eugene, Edgar, Joel Yee, etc…. haha =P, I got them to help me carry the Leigon altar down from the cenacle to put in the photo as well… And that’s about all for a very interesting Monday…

Tuesday
Other than a not so bad discus final, I got to meet Ric and Bryane, ppl who I’ve seen before, but not know of my existence… So now they know me, and I know them (since long time ago)… I got 5th postition… Not too bad, but not that great either… Anyway, some guy named Chedwin was the student helper? Weird name… Haha =P, He had to run three times to get Mr Lui to come down and verify the record breaking throw… When it started raining, they called for a halt of all events, and we took a break, until much later when we resumed, after a snack in the canteen, for the second part of the finals, after elimination of everyone outside the top 8 throws. That didn’t end up TOO bad, Belmond got bronze medal, but i went for Legion quite dirty and smelly, only to find Mr Ang in the middle of his allocutio, telling a story in which he broke a poor, innocent clay jar, which shattered into a million pieces… I still have a piece of it now… Muahaha…

Wednesday
We got to leave class early due to Yeoman service at the National Cross Country Track and Field Championships. I was quite excited, cuz I find Yeoman service quite fun… But then again, my sense of fun is warped, so don’t listen to me… HAHA =P Anyway, I saw Ben Lee there (Choir Hannah Lee’s bro), cheering for ACS (eeyer) at the final stretch… Haha, he was actually audible! Surprise, surprise, first time I’ve heard him shouting… One poor boy crossed the finish line, bent over, and started puking (RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!!). I was stunned, so I supported him, while I called for the SJAB ppl, but they just stood there, cuz he wasn’t lying flat on the ground or anything… He dropped to his knees, while I was still calling for SJAB, and his friend came to console and be there for him. Haha, the friend looked up, and said to me, "Sir, I think he’s okay already, he just needs to (retching sound) finish vommitting…" or something to that extent. I nodded my head, more amazed at the fact that I was being called "Sir" than the exhausted boy kneeling half dead on the floor. Evenutally, the SJAB escorted the poor boy to the recuperation tent. Poor boy =(
In another instance, a guy couldn’t even pick himself up after completing the race, he was almost delirious! We had to carry him onto a chair, and carry the chair to the recuperation tent. I must say, he had quite a fun time being surrounded by SJAB girls attending to him, fanning him, pouring water on him…

Maundy Thursday
After school, shotput wasn’t exactly very successful, since I got sixth place, behind Bryden and five throwers…. Nevermind, Belmond got a bronze medal again… I put powder all over my hair, to make me look old… Haha, I couldn’t get the snowy effect right though… I started to snow Bryden too, but he kept rubbing it off… Oh well, Chien Ming got quite angry, cuz he missed the record by 1 cm… Pity, he threw up such a fuss, even though he got gold…
After the thing was over, I was in the canteen, when I saw the MM gathering for an outing (presumably to go for Maundy Thursday mass together), so when Daniel Seow (Dan the Man, from Orientation Camp) walked past, I stuck him with a number sticker, the ones that all the trackers have… We stole three boxes full of them from the PE Store, when Mr Arul was cleaning out the unwanted stuff, and that was in the junk pile, so our class just koped it after PE… Anyway, that sparked off a war, since he started sticking it on the other MM members also. Timothy Oen came to ask for some number stickers too, but kena stuck one by me in the process of receiving it… "That was uncalled for.." (Yeah right…) Anyway, i stuck one accidentally on Leonard’s hair, but I really didn’t mean it, I was going for his shoulder, but he dodged…. Anyway, I went back home to bathe and change for Maundy Thursday mass, which I was singing for… I went early, to practice all the parts once more, and to warm up my voice with the rest of the choir, and sang my heart out for that mass. Everyone thought the music was great, and the mass was beatiful. After mass, we went for church visiting to Church of St. Vincent De Paul, Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Church of St. Anne’s, and the Church of the Nativity. It was a very spiritual and reflective time, spent away from work and studies for God, and it was a journey and process that I went through to stay awake, and to pray with Jesus in his Garden of Gethsemane. I still remember in the bus, Ben Teo fell asleep on my shoulder, and I pretended to be asleep on his head, and people started taking photos, so I "woke up" when I received an sms, and had to co-ordinate my collection of money from my brother (whom I haven’t paid back yet), since I didn’t bring any for the camp at SJI, where I was heading to for the overnight stay after their own church visiting (which I didn’t attend since I had my own one)… Anyway, so we reached SJI like an hour early… And we waited, and waited, and waited… (Ben Teo and I that is…)
When they finally came back, I was already quite bored, so I decided to have a little crazy fun… Since I was in my sleeping bag, I crawled like a caterpillar to try and help them set up the Stations of the Cross service (at like 3 a.m.?!!?!?!), acting really spastic and lame, but funny all the same (hey, i rhyme!) =P
I think one guy from sec one (Jerome?) thought I was crazy or something… Aaron and Azriel thought I was crazy, and left it at that, but at least they knew who I was… HAHA =P, so fun freak ppl out…

Good Friday
3 a.m. in the morning, Mr Ang decided to have a prayer service in the LT where we would spend the night, and after setting everything up, and settling everyone down, he introduced an atmosphere of prayer, starting the ceremony with the cross lain on the ground, five candles on the five wounds of Christ, and "since Gabriel Woon is holding the matches, I now invite you to come and light the candles." So I went down, but the first match extinguished (and burned my hand) before the candle was lit, the second one lit the first candle and a portable long candle that I used to light the rest. We then had a short and reflective P&W, followed by Stations of the Cross, in which I made the mistake of going out barefoot, to light the candles of everyone who came out of the LT, sec 1,2,3,4 alike… I was the light of the Legion, and when Mr Ang asked me to sing with him, I sang out, and only our two voices could be heard… Haha =P, I was multi-tasking with lighting of candles and singing parts with him… Walking around the school, rekindling extinguished flames can be more tiring than attending the service itself, in the end, I had a hand full of wax and burns, due to hot wax dripping on me all the time… Especially with people like Nick Loo and Sam Koh, who were frequent visitors, as well as crazy ppl like Bradley who kept on blowing off other ppl’s candles… Mad Goons…
After the Stations of the Cross was over, a few people went to bed, but some stayed up to watch the Passion of the Christ, me being one of them… I fell asleep though, woke up later during the movie… Forgot how moving and touching it was, since I fell asleep last year… *Sigh* It was a great movie, too bad Mr Ang always shows it in the dead of the night…
After movie was over, I went to bathe in the female staff shower room, cuz that was the one that was open… Had a fun time, I must say its quite nice there… Haha =P, not that I will go there again =P
I didn’t sleep, but watched the parody of Jesus Christ Superstar… It was dumb, intelligence-insulting, and pure stupidity… Can’t believe I actually watched a part of that show!!! Anyway, when I went to Esso to buy coffee, I forgot my wallet, so I had to run back and get it, run back to Esso to buy my stuff, then come back for closing ceremony… Whoah =P…
After closing ceremony was over (just for closure, nothing special), I headed to St.Iggy’s for the 10 a.m. Stations of the Cross (acted out by the Sec 4’s) and since I had just watched the Passion of the Christ earlier that morning, I couldn’t really appreciate the lack of acting skills that Mark Vincent has (contrary to the "all-rounded student" that ST claims him to be), and I think it was quite poorly done (sorry to those who planned it, but last year was better)…
Anyway, there was a Divine Mercy chaplet at 11 a.m., but I kept on falling asleep through it, so I decided to go outside and sleep, but I left my shirt inside the auditorium (the one I wear outside my round-neck T-shirt, what were you thinking!??!!?) =P
I woke up in time for the 12 noon Passion Sunday service, and it was so solemn, especially after a whole night of prayer and reflection (well, not the whole night…) that I really found more meaning in it than previous years of Easter, that came and went by meaninglessly…

Holy Saturday
That afternoon, I had choir practice for Easter mass the next day, combined with the mini-orchestra that comes together on big occasions (like Christmas and Easter), but practice was lousy, cuz we had a strength that you could count using one hand…. But we got through the parts, and the adjustments in tune, rhythm and score… After that, Marian, Frances, Ben Teo and I went out for "dinner" at Farrer Rd hawker centre, sharing what we had in a small community meal… That was nice, but then Pap brought me more food when he came, so I ate that too… Haha, how piggeroo could I get? (Don’t answer that… =P)
The Easter Vigil was really, nice especially with all the music, and the fellowhip surrounding me, since I was with Jessica, David Menon, Jonathan Lim, Elliot, Douglas, later joined by David (huang loong) and Granville… What a merry company to fit into one window bench… Anyway, I sang loud for all of them to follow, and they appreciated and enjoyed it =P
Halfway through the Alleluia, my contact lens fell out of my eye, and I washed it with eyedrops and popped it back in… Haha, caused quite a commotion… Anyway, crazy guys were so noisy, they got scolded by the aunty sitting next to us (serves them right…)
I spotted a cockroach an inch away from Jonathan’s foot, and tried to warn him, but he moved it, and it scurried past Granville who jumped up and nearly cried out in shock and fear… Haha =P you should have seen his reaction… Anyway, he spent quite a lot of the rest of the mass keeping track of the cockroach, and decided to share the chair with Jonathan instead of sitting on the floor… Haha
All in all, Easter Vigil was great, but I had to wake up early the next day to sing for mass (again), but not before I had attended the part for the catechumens and their relatives, including the ministries who helped in the Easter Vigil, so I just slipped in to enjoy the air con, and to finish up leftovers, muahahaha =P!

Easter Sunday
We sang loud, strong and clear for the crowd that morning, and they loved it… Together with the orchestra, our voices charmed the old folks, and lifted the young ones in exultation, everyone singing with us, and applauding for us at the end… Anyway, it went great, there was an Easter party after that at Hannah’s house, which I turned up for with much-appreciated Chai Tao Kway… Hahaha =P (more by the uncles and aunties than the kiddies)…
I enjoyed myself, playing foosball, and swinging on the swing… Had fun making friends with the small little children, like Dean and Elizabeth, re-meeting some like Claire and Lynn (Lisa?)… Crazy bunch of kids, running around, left and right, to and fro, up and down…
All in all, it was a great Easter (except for trying to catch up with homework, cuz that failed miserable…)

Hope everyone had a great Easter, and the spirit is still with us, so celebrate! (but don’t forget to do your homework… =P),

Delayed April Fools’ Joke?

Choir prac on Thursday night, 6/4.
La Storta Room.
Hanging around outside before it was opened.
Jumped onto the ledge.
Scared qiute a lot of ppl.
Ledge is quite high up.
"Please, especially not tonight".
RIP, Aunty Fudge.

- Explanation -
The choir was hanging outside the La Storta Room in church, waiting for it to be opened for choir practice on Thursday. Being my bored usual self, I jumped onto the ledge which was quite high up from the ground below. This scared quite a lot of ppl, cuz it wasn’t as if there was any safety below, or even guarantee that I wouldn’t fall suddenly. It was also a pretty bad time to do something like that, cuz Aunty Fudge passed away that morning, people were still in a state of shock and mourning. So I got off, but that wasn’t even the prank.
- Explanation over-

Choir prac going on.
Eyes were dry.
Went to get eyedrops.
Retainers in pocket, jumped out.
Joe found them, asked who they belonged to.
Commotion caused, put on the bench.
Choir prac over.
Threw retainers away.
Retainers in my pocket again.
Wanna know how?

- Explanation -
We were having choir practice, and my eyes were getting quite dry, since I had been wearing my lenses since the morning. I went to get my eyedrops, but dropped my retainers in the process, since they were in my pocket (so that I could pronounce the words properly)…
Joe found them, asked who they belonged to. I was about to own up, when there was a commotion caused (esp by the girls, cuz they were so disgusted). I got a fright, and decided to wait until it was all over to claim my poor retainers.
Anyway, at the end, I helped to clean up, keeping my eye on the retainers all throughout, to see if anyone dared to touch them… HAHA =P
People went up to it, tried to guess who it belonged to… Father Les even tried to guess if it belonged to a girl or a guy. HAHA =P
Anyway, when choir prac ended, I pretended to pick them up using a brochure, and throw them away. This I did to "rid of an eyesore", but in the meantime, I slipped the retainers into my pocket.
- Explanation over-

Ain’t I smart? No one knew it was mine (except maybe Ben Teo)… I think he suspected me… HAHA =P

Happy April Fools’ Day, my dearest choir!
Luv, Ben.

Monday
English Oral Examination for FYE took place, for classes 331-334. I was not that nervous, but I really had no preparation or expectation for that exam. Anyway, a few tips; sit next to the closed window where they are having their exam, and try and hear the question. Stand behind the door, out of view, and look at the practice paper, which is a few metres away from the actual examination table, and get the person sitting there to raise it up for you to read it, esp if there’s a picture… Haha =P
I think Bro Jason like me, and I did much better than I expected to… If I peeked at my marks correctly, I think I got 11/12 and 15/16 for Reading and Conversation respectively… However, due to my stupid retainers, I had problems with consonant sounds, cuz I was too used to talking with a piece of plastic instead of a fleshy palate… But it went well, and that’s all that matters…

Tuesday
Shotput competition; I threw one shot, and it started raining when the second round was about to begin… How dumb is that?!?!
Anyway, after that, I went for Legion of Mary, and it was quite hectic watching all the boys playing soccer… Haha =P So many guys chasing for a ball! How sad…

Wednesday
According to our English teacher, its pronounced as WENS-day, and not WED-NES-DAY… But TDP Chem was pretty fun, we did allotropes of Sulphur, and nearly choked to death on Sulphur Dioxide fumes… We made a plasticky substance that wasn’t an allotrope, but was actually a transient form of Sulphur as it cooled quickly from a liquid state. However, we did manage to make a monocilic allotrope of Sulphur, by cooling it slowly on a piece of filter paper, forming crystals. That was quite cool, I got to show off my Sulphur allotropes, but quite a lot of ppl said it looked like dog poo…

Thursday
Discus competition; not too bad, but not that great either… It started raining thunder and lightning just as I was going to take my third throw… Mr Low was the presiding teacher, but coach was the one really running the show, providing the rules and keeping the regulations… Edgar, Ric and Bryane were there (quite surprisingly), and so was Calvin Fong, but Ric qualified (even more surprisingly), and so did Calvin Fong… Haha =P
Anyway, I got 5th place, after Chien Ming, Naz, Belmond, and Edmund… Made a fool out of myself, especially since I can’t throw discus… Haha =P
Andre Ow was a student judge, along with some other guy named Chedwin (is that how you spell it?), they were quite good, they knew how to do things (like mark the landing spot, and dodge when the discus was flying straight at them)…
We also had promotional parade, but since I had sports heats, I didn’t attend… So I’m still a LCP, without a NCC badge… How sad =) (HAHA)… From what I heard, they kena tekan like siao… Thank God I didn’t go!

Friday
Founders’ Day went really well, mass was run by MM, quite smoothly, and the altar was decorated very well by the teachers as well… The ceremony after assembly was quite fun, Me and J Kor playing with bits of paper, and getting caught by Ser Han… Haha… Stupid Adrian! Anyway, I waited in the cenacle for Legion outing after that (how dumb… might as well have gone back to SMS)… I made friends with Bradley, and something weird happend to Julian that I’m sure he’ll never forgive me for… HAHA =P
We headed to Mr Ang’s house, eating at J8 along the way, so I made friends with Jonathan, another Sec 1, the one with the green strap dangling his wallet around his neck… Ain’t I just popular?
Now, I’m waiting for dinner, going for penetential service later… Everyone has something on, why are there so many things going on?!?!!

Anyway, sorry for the delayed update… No time to send testi or add ppl’s blogs anymore… Promise I’ll do it soon, k? (Maybe in e hols…)

Can’t wait for Church Visiting,
GAB.

PS What’s wrong with Gabby? (Other than it being female…)

Sec 2 RME Day of Reflection

Saturday, April 1st, 2006

SO FUN!!! But like the Sec 1 DoR, it was too short to bond with them (not like I wanted to bond with SSVP…), but I had lots more fun with Legion than with my group, even though the Sec 3’s were leading the groups independently, I still had "Nigie" and "Linie" (Melvin’s nicknames for them, not mine) to keep me company…

It happened to coincide with April Fools’ Day, so I received an sms from Timothy Lee, saying that he would be transferring to Anderson Sec School, cuz he appealed at the start of the year and finally got in. I was in such a state of shock, that I blurted the message out, and relayed it to Mr Ang. In the end, the joke was on Timothy, who although got me falling for his prank, also was terrified that he would get Mr Ang angry as a result of playing pranks… Haha =P

Anyway, I think it was a lot more fun than last year, especially since these Sec 2’s seemed to be more open to whatever was going on… And also cuz almost half of them were legionaries!!! Haha… I felt that it was a success (maybe not my debrief, but overall) and they really enjoyed themselves…

A little misc. info, I went around during lunch with my hand stuck in a bucket of cold water, and grabbing ppl’s necks… Haha, their reactions quite fun, John Tan was like screaming (probably higher than RGS)… Jared Monteiro was like the only one without reaction, no fun… Haha =P
I also went around, with masking tape, tying ppl up, like Nigel, who became somewhat like Xena, and another Sec 2, who willingly volunteered to be tied up, and so I mummified him, and Melvin even went under and in between his legs (with his full consent)… I can swear that Nigel’s shirt was twice as big as he started out with, since when you want to rip off the tape, it still sticks to your shirt, and stretches your shirt instead of coming off…
I was also the turtle dove in Friar Mike’s COVENANT session, wasn’t Michael the turtle dove last year? Anyway, I forgot the answer to when the word "covenant" is said in the mass… Die lah, so malu, sec 3 dunno one… Haiz… "Take this, all of you, and drink from it. This is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting COVENANT, which will be shed for you and for all, so that sins may be forgiven…"

Anyway, I really enjoyed myself, I hope my Sec 2’s did too… Had fun being tied up by me and Eugene, and being mummified at lunch too… Haha… Masking tape rox (esp if you wrap it round ppl)… Haha…

NO NCC TRAINING NEXT WEEK!!! Muahahaha…

Legion Camps ROCK!!!
Gabby.

P.S. Ben Teo told me he’s gay… And has a crush on me… You believe?
